1. Should I get a cotton or nylon cord hammock?

All of our cotton hammocks are 80% cotton and 20% nylon. With cotton hammocks the body is cotton however the arms are nylon to provide greater strength. Cotton hammocks have more stretch which means it will mould to your body better and provide the ultimate support.

Our nylon hammocks are 100% nylon. These are more durable than the cotton hammocks and can be more suitable if the hammock is to be exposed to the elements or greater wear and tear (e.g. around a swimming pool). The nylon hammock is still very comfortable. So much so that the owners of this business both use nylon hammocks. The nylon hammock can also prove the better option if the hammock is to be setup and packed down at different locations (e.g. camping).

Both the cotton and nylon hammocks come in a wide variety of colours.

2. How long does my hammock last for and is there any special care I should know about?

If given proper care your hammock will last for many years. However the exact lifespan depends on many factors such as which mater it is made from (cotton or nylon) and if it is exposed to the elements when not in use. We recommend that it sheltered from the elements when not in use.
It is also important that the user wears appropriate clothing when relaxing in your hammock. Buttons, jewellery, shoes and watches can all cause damage and should be avoided. Should your hammock have a broken cord it is possible to repair by knotting each end.
Should you wish to leave your hammock up and prolong the life of your hammock we recommend the use of a hammock cover. This will ensure the ultimate protection for when not in use.

3. How do I hang a hammock and what is the space required?

Hammocks can be secured using a variety of fixtures depending on your particular setup. Common fixing points include trees, wooden beams, decking, pergolas, brick or concrete walls and metal beams. It is important that the fixing point is secure and safe as the weight of a hammock in use can be substantial. What you will need to fix will vary depending on the material. For example bricks and concrete can use dyna-bolts whereas trees can use tree straps. We do provide eyes screws that can be used for timber/wood and also ‘S’ hooks which enable the hammock to be setup/packed down within a few seconds.

The ideal space required for each of our hammocks is around 4 metres. When setting up you want the hammock ends to be around 5-6 feet above the ground so that the middle point of the hammock is around knee height.

If you don’t quite have the 4 metres in space required you can fix each end of the hammock to a higher point however this will cause a banana shape when lying in the hammock and may compromise your comfort. A second solution is to place a knot in the end(s) of the hammock as shown in this article.

If the distance you have is longer than 4 metres then rope can be used to bridge the gap.

We provide comprehensive hanging instructions when a hammock is purchased to help you setup correctly.

Lay your hammock on the ground and using thick cord or thin rope to bind the hammock by wrapping the cord/rope around the hammock in 6 inch intervals. Then simply put the hammock in a pillow case and place in the washing machine. Wash using a mild detergent and cold water.
